Meet Cory

CORY BYRD

Area Representative

Track and Field Chaplain

Cory was born and raised in the town of Abingdon, VA. Growing up around athletic teams, he developed a love for athletics early in his life, with his mom and dad being high school basketball coaches. Cory played basketball and football in high school and walked on to the Virginia Tech football team as a long snapper. He knew he wanted to work around athletics and with student-athletes after graduation, and he worked in student-athlete academic support at Virginia Tech for nine years. During that time, he worked with the teams of Women’s Lacrosse, Men’s Soccer, Wrestling, Softball, and Football. God blessed Cory with a call to ministry and the opportunity to combine his passion for working with student-athletes and coaches, his love for Jesus Christ, and his passion for leading others into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. He has his wife, Katie and two children, Brynlee and Olive, who keep him living out his call to ministry outside of FCA.

In 2018, Jesus drew me to Him, and I trusted Him with my life. When I experienced His love and the abundant life he had for me, He put the desire in my heart to reach others with the Good News of His love and life with Him. FCA gives me the opportunity to meet coaches and athletes where they are, serve them, and share the Gospel with them. I can combine my love for Jesus, sports, and building relationships with coaches and athletes to help lead others into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
